Thanks for stopping by! I am Ashley Young, a sports journalist from the beautiful city of Eugene, Oregon. Haven’t been to Eugene? Well put it on your bucket list. It is a city full of life, coffee, outdoor adventures, and the pursuit of everything PNW . I am a recent graduate from the School of Journalism and Communication at the University of Oregon, and loved every minute of it.

I had the wonderful opportunity of playing five years on the women’s club Ultimate team at UO. I know, you’re probably thinking, “Oh Ultimate! You mean that really hippie thing?” Well sort of, but Ultimate offers much more than being hippie. It is a fast-paced, highly strategic game that is a combination of basketball, soccer and football. Better than me trying to explain it, just YouTube it. You’ll find out why it’s the best.

I was recently hired as a Multimedia Producer & Sports Journalist for Comcast Sportsnet Northwest to cover the University of Oregon Ducks football & basketball for the 2016-2017 season! First of all, this position totally was only possible through God. The process of finding this job posting, applying, interviewing, and getting the phone call, lasted about two weeks. I truly believe this is where I’m supposed to be and what I should be doing. It’s an exciting feeling. My advice to any of you who are fearing the future, stressfully looking for jobs, feeling under pressure, would be to do the things that make you happy and to try. Just trying can help you get through fear.

As a Multimedia Producer during football season, my job is all things relating to web-based content through video work. Every day I head out to Autzen Stadium to attend post-practice press conferences where I get to interview coaches and players about subjects that our audience would like and what our company represents. Then I take whatever footage I got, throw it into Final Cut Pro X, and edit the content with lower thirds, transitions, etc. to upload it to our website! For all home games, it’s all about social media (letting everyone know what the latest and greatest Ducks uniform is over Instagram while also taking photos for Snapchat that are a bit more fun). During basketball season, I get to attend all home games at Matthew Knight Arena, write both a preview of the matchup and a post game rapid reaction to how Oregon either won or lost, what it means, who played well/didn’t play well, and any other current Oregon Ducks news.
